From Humble Beginnings to 24/7 Care: The Evolution of Mission Veterinary Clinic
In June of 1998, Mission Veterinary Clinic opened its doors as a small, single-doctor practice founded by the O’Leary family. Built on a foundation of compassion, commitment, and community trust, the clinic quickly became a reliable source of care for pets and the families who love them.
For over two decades, Mission Veterinary Clinic steadily grew alongside the community it serves. What began as a modest operation expanded in both scope and vision, always with the same guiding principle: to provide high-quality, personalized veterinary care.
A major milestone came in 2021, when the clinic moved into its new home at 16915 San Fernando Mission Blvd in Granada Hills, California. While the transition marked an exciting new chapter, it also came with significant challenges. Over the next three years, the team navigated a complex and often frustrating process involving building regulations and safety requirements. Their goal was clear—to secure the necessary zoning variance to transition from a clinic into a full-service veterinary hospital.
That perseverance has finally paid off.
With the zoning variance now approved, Mission Veterinary Clinic is taking the next step forward—and marking a defining moment in its history. Beginning May 8th, the practice will officially transition to 24/7 operations, offering around-the-clock urgent care and emergency services for the community.
At the same time, the clinic will begin its transformation in name and identity, rebranding as Mission Veterinary Hospital to reflect its expanded capabilities and commitment to a higher level of care.
The distinction between a veterinary clinic and a veterinary hospital is more than just a title. Hospitals are permitted to operate 24 hours a day and provide continuous, overnight care for hospitalized patients—something most clinics are not authorized to do. This transformation allows the hospital to significantly expand its level of care, offering around-the-clock monitoring, emergency services, and critical care when pets need it most.
Of course, growth of this scale doesn’t happen overnight. Building a capable, compassionate team has taken time and dedication. Recruiting skilled veterinarians and support staff was an essential part of making 24/7 care a reality.
Today, that effort has come full circle.
With the addition of their newest veterinarian, Dr. Gamboa, Mission Veterinary Hospital now proudly supports a team of six full-time veterinarians. This expanded team makes it possible to maintain continuous coverage, ensuring that pets receive timely and attentive care at any hour—day or night.
For the O’Leary family and their team, this moment represents more than just operational growth—it’s the realization of a long-held vision. It reflects years of persistence, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of animals.
As Mission Veterinary Hospital steps into this new era, one thing remains unchanged: their dedication to delivering trusted, compassionate care to every patient that walks through their doors—now 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
